Century Of Progress Gala - Baker Mansion
Louise Woods Beckman, of Stockholm, Sweden,
cordially invites you to a grand reception and tour at her family estate in
Alleghany Furnace, Baker Mansion.
This is how the call went out from Elias Baker’s
granddaughter, then a resident of Sweden, to attend a reception to benefit the
Women’s Suffrage Party of Blair County held on September 9, 1915. The reception was hosted at Baker Mansion by
Louise’s daughter-in-law, Frieda Beckman.
It was the first time the home was ever opened to the public. Frieda and her husband, F. Woods Beckman, had
moved to Altoona to assume the duties of overseeing the Baker business
interests.
You are invited to join the Blair County Historical Society
and WISE Women of Blair County in celebrating the 100th Anniversary
of this historical event as we celebrate the opening of the newly renovated,
grand Double Parlor at the Century of Progress Gala. Come see what was the singularly, most
spectacular room in any private home in Blair County. Please join us at Baker Mansion, 3419 Oak
Lane, Altoona, on Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 3PM to 7PM.
