(THE OAKS AT SOBOBA) -- Led by high-flying, record-breaking, aerial artist James Calhoun Jr., the three-time champion SoCal Coyotes (8-1) look to extend their winning streak to nine games in a rare home rematch with the first-time visiting Inglewood Blackhawks (Sunday, October 25, 1 pm),

The Coyotes will put one of the most talented teams ever assembled in the desert on full display against the Blackhawks, who had been the nation’s top-ranked amateur team, and the league’s only undefeated team, until the Coyotes dispatched them 48-30 on the road three weeks ago.

The Coyotes are enjoying a 'Miracle Season' after devastating injuries and an opening day loss nearly ended their amateur fall schedule over two months ago. Reassembled with a brilliant array of rookies, free agents and spare parts, and with once-injured stars now healthy, the never-say-die Coyotes have ignited into the most explosive team in the nation.

The Coyotes are ranked third in the country by the American Football News, the leading amateur poll.

Calhoun is enjoying a brilliant, entertaining, and simply unstoppable season. Three times he's topped 200 yards receiving in a single game, with 1,140 yards and 18 touchdowns on the year. The enormously gifted wideout, return man - and even occasional defensive back - leads the league in receiving, yards per catch, and touchdowns, and is a threat to score every time he touches the ball, from anywhere on the field.

Running back Warren 'Lil' Train' Matthews - the 2014 Indoor Football League Rookie of the Year - has 584 yards on 47 carries, for an average of 12 yards per carry. He has the Coyotes first 1,000-yard rushing season in his sights, and with 33 yards, will break the club regular-season rushing record of 617 yards against the Blackhawks.

With three games to play, Northwestern (La.) State rookie quarterback Zach Adkins has thrown for 2,565 yards, just 900 yards short of the club single-season passing record (3,465). Adkins set the team record for most touchdowns passing (38) last week, and has just one interception on the year.

Defensively, Arizona State pass-rusher Jake Sheffield is enjoying his finest season. He entered the 2015 fall campaign as the Coyotes all-time sack leader with 16, and has nearly doubled that number with a league-leading 13 sacks on the year. Sheffield leads a Coyote 'Darkside Defense' that is wall-to-wall with stars, leaving opponents unable to focus on any single threat. The complete linebacking rotation of Ryan Pervine, Will Hoglund, Cade Cowdin, Gary Young, Robert Caldwell, and Jerimiah Spicer is a dream team, and defensive end/tackle David Williams has a league-leading 25 tackles-for-loss and 9.5 sacks.

The Coyotes secondary, led by veteran Anthony Spencer and LeRon Wilson (who has four INTs), features an array of rookie talent, including emerging Texas El-Paso star Nick Gathrite, and special teams sensation John Paiz.

SUNDAY ALSO MARKS THE RETURN of franchise quarterback Michael Karls, albeit in a limited role. In Week One, Karls suffered what was diagnosed then as a season-ending ankle injury, which opened the door for Adkins. Karls has recovered ahead of schedule, was medically cleared this week, and will rejoin his teammates in uniform Saturday night.

BLACKHAWKS-COYOTES II will bring the eyes of the amateur football world to the doorstep of Greater Palm Springs on Sunday, October 25, at 1 p.m. In a game that will draw fans from around Southern California, the Coyotes opted to play the game at their other home field -The Oaks at Soboba Sports Complex at the Soboba Casino, in nearby San Jacinto. It is the first time the Blackhawks have ever played the Coyotes outside of Inglewood.
