"O my son, Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!" (2 Samuel 18:33)
The tragic story of David and his son Absalom, and the lament of a father for his beloved child, has been the text for many beautiful and touching compositions over the centuries.
We hope you'll plan to join The King's Counterpoint
on Patriot's Day weekend as we remember the fallen
and share a few of the many incredible and moving
settings of David's lament, including compositions by
Tomkins, Weelkes, Ramsey, Billings, Whitacre, Gombert and Josquin,
and featuring Victoria's beautiful Officium Defunctorum for 6 voices.
