Craig Rubano is back for what has proven on two previous occasions to be a highlight of the Princeton spring concert season. This year, joined again by Beth Ertz at the piano, the talented twosome presents On a Song as a Prayer. The power of song — of the sung voice — somehow seems to encompass everything we could wish for, pray for. Where does song leave off and prayer begin? The duo explores this riddle through the music of Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Schwartz, Stephen Sondheim, Richard Rodgers, and Cole Porter, along with more pointedly-hymnodic offerings. Count on Craig and Beth to gift us with songs that illuminate the power of melody and word to access hope, healing, and the holy.
