Wed. March 28: Special Guest Star Trini Lopez
Joining The Golden Era Singers on stage as a very special guest star, will be iconic singer and actor Trini Lopez. The internationally loved Lopez will regale with his fascinating rags to riches life story, his relationships with some of the most distinguished entertainers Hollywood has ever known, and he will sing his renown songs.
Discovered by Frank Sinatra, Lopez had 16 Top 40 songs on the charts from 1963 through 1968, including the hit song "If I Had a Hammer", which earned him a Golden Disc. Other beloved hits include "Lemon Tree", "I'm Comin' Home, Cindy" and "Sally Was a Good Old Girl.” As an actor, Lopez played one of The Dirty Dozen (1967) with Frank Sinatra. In 1973 Lopez stared as Antonio Contreras in “Antonio.” Lopez, a resident of Palm Springs, has recently released a CD called “All Original Songs.”
Wed. April 11: Special Guest Star Alison Arngrim
Alison Arngrim, Little House on the Prairie’s Nellie Oleson, a.k.a. “the meanest little girl in the West,” returns for a second time to A Toast To The Stars. An audience favorite, she is the guest star of choice for the variety show’s season finale.
Arngrim was a child star known by everyone who watched television in the seventies. Her role as Nellie Oleson garnered her the Young Artist Award: Former Child Star
Lifetime Achievement Award, and the TV Land Award: for “Character Most Desperately in Need of a Timeout.” Having begun stand up while she was performing on Little House on the Prairie, Arngrim used her character Nellie to created a comedic one-woman show, “Confessions of a Prairie Bitch.” She also penned her best seller memoir “Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated.” Angrim provides the most “dishy and personal” insights into celebs of yesterday and today, including her warm recollections of Michael Landon.
The Palm Springs Variety Show
With impeccable retro style, the dynamic Golden Era Singers send guests back to a time when the fun onstage combined camaraderie, wit and cool. Leading the (rat) pack is Francesca Amari, an award-winning actress and cabaret vocalist who has appeared on the top cabaret stages from New York to Hollywood. Her perfect counterpoint is crooner Gilmore Rizzo, who tours nationally with his own show, “That’s Amore,” and appeared for 8 years on the Emmy-winning TV series, “Murphy Brown.” Accompanist Bryan Miller, a staple of the Hollywood piano bar scene, rounds the trio, giving audiences an irresistible, non-stop, energetic evening of music mixed with Palm Springs and Hollywood history, trivia and dish. The show, which is patterned after the quintessential Rat Pack party on stage, is filled with music from composers, singers, TV and movie stars who have had homes in the Coachella Valley.
The Riviera Palm Springs
An inspired match, the event will be hosted at the glamorous Riviera Palm Springs. The epochal luxury resort was the original Vegas style playground for the coolest of the cool: Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Desi Arnaz, and Sonny & Cher, to name a few. After a $60 million reinvention in 2016, “The Riv” carries her legend forward to set the standard for retro-bohemian cool.
A Toast To The Stars
At A Toast to the Stars, entertainers and the audience alike raise their glasses to the many Hollywood entertainers who lived in Palm Springs. While audiences listen to the songs their favorite stars made famous, they eat and drink, exactly where the stars themselves partied. It captures the imagination of audiences who, for a couple of hours, leave their modern lives behind and are “living the good life, back in the day.”
Parking
There is valet parking ($6) at the entrance to the resort. Free, self parking adjacent to the Grand Ballroom is accessed from the parking lot entrance on Vista Chino.
Pricing
$119.00 per person. Price includes: A complimentary wine reception with warm welcome, a dazzling three course dinner, The Palm Springs Variety Show with the Golden Era Singers and the evening’s guest star. Trini Lopez will be appearing 3/28 and Alison Arngrim will be appearing 4/11.
