On Monday, May 6th, 2019, brothers Austin and Hunter Bishop were severely injured in a motor vehicle accident, when the tractor they were operating was struck by a pickup truck attempting to pass the tractor. The accident occurred on Route 219 in Great Valley, NY. Both boys were airlifted by Mercy Flight to ECMC in Buffalo, NY. Austin was struck by the truck and was able to crawl out from underneath it to assist his brother and start triage until help arrived.
Austin Bishop, 21, is a US Army Veteran and member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was wounded in combat while serving overseas on deployment and was medically retired from the Army the day of the accident. Austin suffered multiple injuries including a broken ankle, concussion and multiple hairline fractures as a result of the motor vehicle accident. Hunter Bishop, 18, is an Ellicottville Central High School Senior. Hunter was placed in the intensive care unit with severe head trauma, skull fractures and multiple contusions.
Austin and Hunter share a home together and are going to face extensive medical bills and significant financial strains as a result of the accident. Both boys are hardworking members of our community and Austin is also a member of the Great Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
