For 32 years, the Black Men of Labor (BMOL) has presented a living museum and master class in New Orleans’ Traditional Black Culture — a culture carried from Africa, preserved by our ancestors, and sustained today through music, movement, and community.
Founded in 1994 at the House of Blues, the BMOL Jazz Legacy Honors began by celebrating more than 100 living New Orleans jazz pioneers, ensuring their contributions were recognized while they were still here to receive their flowers. Over three decades, this event has evolved into the official kickoff of BMOL Weekend — a family reunion of New Orleans Black Culture, honoring the musicians, culture bearers, and tradition keepers who shaped the city’s identity.
The 2026 Noir Experience: BMOL Jazz Legacy Gala will take place on Friday, October 23, 2026 at 8:00 PM New Orleans Hilton Riverside 2 Poydras Street, New Orleans, LA
This year, BMOL proudly honors three extraordinary women whose leadership, artistry, and cultural stewardship have strengthened New Orleans’ musical legacy:

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, BMOL hosts this event to raise essential funds that keep our programs and services free for the most vulnerable low‑ to moderate‑income residents. These funds also support our commitment to elder musicians — ensuring they receive dignified, proper, and culturally rooted burials when their families lack resources.
The Noir Experience is more than a gala. It is preservation. It is celebration. It is community. It is a love letter to Tremé — written by the people who live its culture every day.
