3-on-3 BASKETBALL RULES

Information & Rules

  • Team roster minimum is 3 players; maximum is 4 players per team. Only one sub permitted during play

  • All players MUST SIGN event waiver to participate in the games
  • The teams can be Co-Rec, male and female ages sixteen and older

  • All players under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign the consent form and waiver.
  • Players may play on only one team

  • No alcohol, tobacco or illicit drugs permitted in Luetta Moore Park. Spectators and participants found in violation will be removed from the event.

Rules and Regulations

  • All games will be 10 minutes long.

  • Two Points will be scored for each basket shot from within the 3-point arc; shots from behind the 3-point arc counting as three points.

  • If the game is tied at the end of the 10 minute period a coin toss will take place to determine which team will have possession of the ball and two additional minutes will be added to the time.

  • Teams will shoot from behind the 3-point arc to determine who starts with possession of the ball.

  • The team scoring a basket will not retain possession of the ball.

  • After each made basket or change of possession, the ball must be taken back behind the 3-point arc before a shot can be attempted. If a team scores a basket without taking the ball back, the basket will be disallowed but the offending team will retain possession.

  • After a basket, out- of- bounds, violation, or foul, the offense must “check” the ball with their opponent before play resumes and the ball must be passed to start play. There are no free throws.

  • Refs must call fouls and violations as necessary to keep the game under control.

  • All held-balls are awarded to the defense first then they alternate for example on a jump ball or trying to stall to conserve time.

  • Substitutions may be made at any time that play is stopped.

  • Teams are awarded one 30 second timeout per game.

  • The Refs are the only administrators for the games. They will not call fouls or violations unless necessary. If a ref calls an excessive contact intentional foul or a technical foul, the penalty will be one free throw for the offended team, and the ball awarded for a throw-in.

  • The ref may remove a player from a contest without warning if the player is behaving inappropriately.

  • All decisions by the ref are final.

  • If a team is not ready five minutes before the start of the game then the game is forfeited.

  • Not having enough team members will also forfeit the game.
