The Center for Metal Arts and JAHA are pairing up to present the Cambria Iron Historic Tour. The tour will begin at the Heritage Discovery Center and conclude at Center for Metal Arts with tours of each facility.
When tour participants arrive at the Heritage Discovery Center on Broad Street, they will be escorted into the Iron and Steel Gallery. This exhibit is a carefully curated dive into the history of steel making in Johnstown. An oral presentation of the history represented by the pieces lining the walls will be given before viewing the film Mystery of Steel. This extrasensory film delves into the steel making process, the history of steel making in Johnstown, and the hustle and bustle of everyday work in the mill. Guests will have some time after the film for perusing the gallery before heading over to Center for Metal Arts to continue the tour!
When the group arrives at CMA the tour begins with the Pattern Shop, which now holds our research studio and forging classroom. During the tour of this building a short twenty-minute blacksmithing demonstration will occur in the research studio under a 400lb Chambersburg power hammer. After the demonstration the tour will move to the historic Blacksmith Shop where participants will be given a full history of the building as well as the future plans for the building as a part of Center for Metal Arts Campus. At the conclusion of the tour visitors will participate in a question and answer period with the tour guides.
Tours will be limited to 25 people each to ensure social distancing throughout.
