Please join us as we welcome Cheryl Arena back to Nelson's Candies with Boston based blues artist Danielle Miraglia. Cheryl & Danielle's performance at the 2018 Blues Summit in Sturbridge Massachusetts was nothing short of magical and we are so excited to have them here on December 1, 2018.
Cheryl sizzles with excitement as she mesmerizes audiences with her sultry voice and powerhouse energy. She is a triple threat- a great songwriter, vocalist and blows harp like there's no tomorrow...
Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, she began playing harmonica and immersing herself into the Blues in 1987. Boston was an inspiring place to be as she was surrounded by so many talented harmonica and horn players. Her earliest childhood memories relating to music were listening and singing along with her mother's Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday records. Her true passion though was in learning to play an instrument so at age 8 her grandmother set her up with accordion lessons..not exactly what she had in mind, but it was a start and lead to playing other instruments like guitar and bass guitar, and eventually finding the one instrument that truly resonated with her…the harmonica. She knew this was her calling so she went looking for a job that she could support herself while at the same time focusing on practicing harmonica...that job was driving limos.
Danielle Miraglia comes armed with a strong steady thumb on an old Gibson, an infectious stomp-box rhythm and harmonica with tunes ranging from heart-felt to socially conscious that will move both your heart and your hips. Her latest "All My Heroes Are Ghosts," releases with her band Danielle M and The Glory Junkies touches on a lot of what might be on your mind these days- the loss of so many musical heroes on the title track, the chaos of "fake news" on "Monster," our collective anxieties on "All On Fire," and more... The music itself blends influences of some of Miraglia's own musical heroes- The Rolling Stones, Prince, Janis Joplin along with Danielle's lyrical ability to explore human nature at its best and worst. Danielle was nominated for a 2015 Boston Music Award for Singer-Songwriter of the Year.
Danielle has toured and played major venues across the United States and beyond, shining in both the Folk and Blues circuits including the New York State Blues Festival, New Bedford Summerfest, The Narrows Center for the Arts (Fall River, MA), The Birchmere (Alexandria, VA) The Ramshead (Annapolis, MD), Sellersville Theater (Sellersville, PA) and the list goes on.
She has shared the stage with the likes of Buddy Guy, Joan Osborne, John Oates, Colin Hay, John Mayall, Johnny Winter, Bettye Lavette, JOhn Hammond Jr., Sonny Landreth, Robert Cray, Rodney Crowell and many many more.
"Straddling the line where folk/roots meets rock/blues, Miraglia has a voice that can go from a raspy come-hither purr to an Etta James-esque powerhouse belt, although she may be best known for her lead thumb — a heavy, thumping strike on her Gibson that’s backdrop percussion in itself." - Lauren Daley - The Boston Globe
"Danielle is a dynamic and captivating musician; her rich soulful voice and blues guitar mastery resonate in a performance both rare and unforgettable." - Paul Patchel, State Street Blues Festival - Media, PA
“The genius of Glory Junkies is that Miraglia successfully pokes fun at a proverbial “selfie nation,” while also fully owning that tendency. Glory Junkies offers up deeply narrative lyricism and carefully crafted compositions...Glory Junkies boasts a song about reality TV, and one (the title track) that pokes fun at immortalizing one’s own image. Others stray into more personal territory, hitting close to home on Miraglia’s family dynamic, but the concept of the album remains a mainstay throughout.” - Liz Rowley, BestNewBands
