Hi all!
We are really excited to share that we will be running the 2024 NYC Marathon with Project Purple in memory of our beautiful Aunt, DD!
As you may or may not know, our family lost DD in October of 2020 to Pancreatic Cancer. It came out of nowhere - and, to this day, we still cannot believe she is really gone. We keep telling ourselves that she’s just on a wee trip home to Ireland.
It’s rare to have such a special relationship with an aunt or uncle, but luckily to us, DD was like a second mom. DD was at our house every day, was the best feis aunt you could ever ask for, and would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. We know many of you can second this.
We always looked forward to our weekly “DD Saturdays”. She would come over with Donut Delight coffee for us, and of course, Dunkin Donuts for mom. We would go get a mani/pedi at Fiji, do a little girls shopping, grab #13 sandwiches at Giacomos, and come home and have lunch together. This happened every weekend - and will forever be the highlight of our childhood.
As many know, our entire family is over in Ireland & England (quite literally, we are the only two Americans in the family), so having DD with us in the States was just such a blessing. Many of our friends called her ddbestaunt - because it was true. She was the best of the best.
And, this goes without saying, but we are incredibly blessed to have the most amazing aunts and uncles over in Ireland and England that we are so very close to, and we don’t take it for granted. Shauna/Aaron, Joanne/Pat, Siobhain/Micael, Oongh/Andy, Maggie/Jarleth, Dessie, Maggie/Mick, Liz/Pat / angel Mike - we’re looking at all of you.
We keep DD’s memory alive every day, but have wanted to do something big in her name for quite a while. And what’s bigger than a marathon? So this November 3rd, the two of us will be running 26.2 miles in honor of DD.
With all of this being said, we’re fundraising to support Project Purple - a non-profit organization empowering the fight against pancreatic cancer. Since their founding in 2010, they’ve been leading the charge, pioneering advancements (as it’s often too late to treat once detected), and bringing hope to those affected by pancreatic cancer. If you are able, we would love to have your support by donating to our fundraising page. All of the proceeds will go to Project Purple to help those affected by the cancer DD tried so hard to fight through.
Please do not feel obligated to donate, though. Our main goal is to keep DD’s memory alive, and by reading this, you already have.
