October 12 Ride the Rails Tour is SOLD OUT!
October 19 Ultimate Rail Fan Tour HAS TWO TICKETS AVAILABLE!
Ride the Rails is an all-day train excursion from Johnstown to Altoona, PA. Guests will tour various train-related museums and historic sites. For the 2024 rail tours, we are offering two different experiences:
RIDE THE RAILS TOUR - October 12, 2024: Board Amtrak's eastbound Pennsylvanian (#42) at the historic Johnstown Train Station to Altoona, PA, passing along the world-famous Horseshoe Curve. Then experience a docent-led tour through the Horseshoe Curve and the Railroaders Memorial Museum. In between there will be stops at the Boyer Candy Factory, and Baker Mansion. At the end of the day you'll board the westbound Pennsylvanian (#43) back to Johnstown. Midday we will be stopping at Cracker Barrel for lunch (each guest pays on their own; lunch is not included in the ticket).
* THE HORSESHOE CURVE INCLINE IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE
THE ULTIMATE RAIL FAN'S TOUR - October 19, 2024: Board Amtrak's eastbound Pennsylvanian (#42) at the historic Johnstown Train Station to Altoona, PA and travel along the world-famous Horseshoe Curve. Then spend the day with our docent, who will lead you on an in-depth tour through the Horseshoe Curve and the Railroaders Memorial Museum, sharing his expertise on all things rail-related in detail, before returning to Johnstown on the westbound Pennsylvanian (#43). Midday we will be stopping at Cracker Barrel for lunch (each guest pays on their own; lunch is not included in the ticket).
* THE HORSESHOE CURVE INCLINE IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE
Our docent, Brian Lehman, has 37 years of railroad experience starting with Conrail, having worked up from trackman to track foreman, and then Track Supervisor with Norfolk Southern. He worked from the Pittsburgh area to Harrisburg and Harrisburg to Buffalo. He'll share his deep knowledge on all aspects of rail history and equipment as he leads you through the two railroad sites.
