Baltimore--Howard County-based, professional Kinetics Dance Company presents an evening of resonant and evocative new work with UNFURL, happening at 8pm on Saturday evening, May 12th at the Baltimore Museum of Art’s Meyerhoff Theatre. The program features work by distinctive guest choreographers Jennifer Dorsey and Ken Skrzesz, Artistic Director Lauren Tait, and a guest appearance by Baltimore-based Company The Collective.
UNFURL presents work crafted with intention and set loose in unfettered performance. Jennifer Dorsey, Kinetics alumnus and Professor of Dance at Bowie State University, debuts Mom:me. The piece peeks into a mother's existence, a world where surprises and bursts of joy vie with repetition and tedium, and where caretaking of self and others fuse. In her new work, Slant, Artistic Director Lauren Tait takes a light look at a loaded subject, examining media influences with a coy and edgy movement satire. Returning to the stage, Skrzesz's buoyant It's All The Same explores sound and movement themes connected with specific religious beliefs and celebrates the commonalities among them. Special guest The Collective presents a weighted and intertwining duet about trying to fit together, Contents May Shift. Student representatives from KDT's modern dance program join the program as well with a new work, WILD.
Also returning, Tait's Drawn evokes the strength and resolve of women warriors throughout history with movement based on the shapes of the weaponry and tools they employed. Rounding off the program is an excerpt from Kinetics' Family Concert Series, BUGGED!: the ethereal Fireflies Dance.
A Meet and Greet with cast and choreographers will take place in the lobby following the show.
About us: Kinetics Dance Theatre is a non-profit organization devoted to the development of contemporary dance as a vital art form within the community through performance, education, and outreach. KDT houses the professional Kinetics Dance Company, Kinetics School of Contemporary Dance, and four student performing companies.
