Pay what you can, suggested donation $30 covers the cost of paying instructors for their time teaching these field days! We want free and low-cost quality avalanche safety education and information to be available to everyone, regardless of income. Please donate whatever you are comfortable with for this course. Please: spots are limited! If your plans change and you will not be attending, notify us as soon as possible so that we can open your spot to someone else. Field days subject to cancellation due to unsafe conditions and extreme weather- we allow you to transfer field days within reasonable limits.

Classroom Session: Thursday January 23rd, 6-8pm @ REI, Bozeman

Field Session: Saturday January 25th, 10am-2pm, History Rock TH 

Cost: $30 donation to the Friends of GNFAC

This six-hour clinic will take place in two parts. The first session, held at REI will cover all types of avalanche rescue gear and discuss what is needed to quickly and effectively rescue your partner.  A discussion of rescue techniques and basic first aid will also be discussed. For each session, each participant must bring their own avalanche beacon, shovel, probe, and pack. 

*IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE BUT DO NOT HAVE AVALANCHE RESCUE GEAR PLEASE EMAIL US!

The field session will be held entirely outdoors. Be prepared to travel over snow with ski/skins, bootpacking or snowshoes OK. Come prepared to comfortably participate in any weather conditions. Hot drinks, snacks, and extra layers are strongly encouraged.

The course goals are to:

1) learn how to be prepared for avalanches while recreating

2) perform a mock rescue including single and multiple burial searches.

The course will cover the importance of beacon, probe, and shovel skills; beacon operation and search principles; demonstration and practice of avalanche search and rescue skill; rescue practice scenarios including group management, scene size-up, beacon signal, course and fine search, probing & shoveling.
