Saint Bartholomew Concert Series

The Saint Bartholomew Concert Series was founded in 2006 by Dr. Bogdan Minut, Director of Music Ministry at Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church. It serves the community through a wide range of musical presentations. During the past nine years, numerous memorable concerts have been successfully presented with the support of the pastor, Fr. Clem Davis, the organizing committee, generous patrons and sponsors, volunteer helpers, and members of our active and highly diverse music ministry. The mission of this concert series is to inspire the congregation and the larger community to appreciate music through quality performances presented by local, national and world renowned guest artists that educate and involve the audience while also enhancing the quality of cultural life in Columbus and the region. Proceeds from these concerts are used to meet the ongoing needs of the music ministry of the church. While the majority of our concerts and recitals have taken place in the sanctuary of the parish, a modern architectural gem and inspiring worship space with acoustics that well serve musical performances, the reach of the series extends beyond the walls of our church. Many members of our music ministry have been active in collaborative concerts in support of fundraising needs of the community. In June of 2014, St. Bartholomew’s adult choir participated in a concert at Carnegie Hall in New York under the baton of world-renowned British conductor, John Rutter. The fabric of our concert series is characterized by its diverse texture encompassing a wide variety of musical styles, ranging from chamber recitals to large choral-orchestral events, including performances with Baroque period instruments, from Jazz to Gospel and Bluegrass styles, and from the use of children, youth and adult voices to traditional and contemporary Hispanic worship music. Highlights of the series include great performances by guest artists, such as renowned Swedish a cappella vocal jazz quintet The Real Group, soprano Mei Zhong from China, contemporary singer-songwriters Matthew Baute and Pedro Rubalcava, Jazz singer Everett Green, pianists Jerry Wong, Robert Palmer and Ray Kilburn, violinist Véronique Mathieu from Canada, and organist Kirby Koriath. Featured ensembles include the Voces Novae choir from Louisville, the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra under the direction of John Abberger from Canada and Barthold Kuijken from Belgium, the Bay Street Brassworks , and the early music ensemble Echoing Air from Indianapolis. The series includes annual events, such as the Minut Piano Duo recitals, the Young Musicians Concert, and concerts featuring various music ministry groups of the parish. Musicians from the Columbus area are also part of our series. The tenth anniversary season 2015-2016 is presented under the auspices of the 175th anniversary year (1841-2016) of the Saint Bartholomew Catholic Parish -- another reason to celebrate through great musical performances. Please check out this season's exquisite line-up and come to our concerts! Thank you for your support!
