West Yellowstone, Snowmobile Intro to Avalanches w/ Field
The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center and Friends of GNFAC are sponsoring this course.
Location: Holiday Inn, 315 Yellowstone Ave - classroom on Thursday, Field on Friday - TBD
Thursday, December 15, 2016, 12 noon until 5pm
Friday, December 16, 2016 - all day field session
The lectures will be conducted during an afternoon (12-5 p.m.) followed by a full day field course. Topics covered include: avalanche terrain recognition, the affect weather has on avalanche hazard, the development of the mountain snowpack, decision making skills, and basic search and rescue procedures. Participants in the field session will each need a reliable snowmobile and basic mountain riding skills. An avalanche rescue beacon and shovel are required.
Cost: a $50.00 donation to The Friends of the Avalanche Center.
