DETROIT – Oct. 9 – In an effort to sponsor 50 Detroit students on a campus visit to Harvard University, where they will interact with current students and faculty, 20 Books Inc., a state registered nonprofit organization, is hosting its first annual College Tour Fundraiser and Fair Oct. 31 at the Victory Fellowship Community Church in conjunction with a Harvest Fest for community residents.

To kick off the 2014 school year, 20 Books is embarking upon the ambitious goal of sending 50 students on a campus visit of Harvard. The primary objective of the fundraiser and fair is to cover 100 percent of the associated costs of the trip--with a financial goal of $8,000.

The fair begins with opening ceremonies at 4 p.m., which will be emceed by April Miles of AP Marketing and Consulting. Musical entertainment for the fair will be provided by Detroit Skills, LLC. Other event entertainment includes hayrides, arts and crafts, face painting, a bounce house and book readings. Food and door prizes are included with the minimum cash donation of $10. The event is open to all ages.

Last fall, 20 Books sponsored 45 Detroit students on a campus visit to Michigan State University.  Many of the students had not been exposed to a college environment and hadn’t considered a college education. The unanimous feedback from the students who attended the tour was that the event was a mind-opening experience. Students said they were emboldened by the opportunity and now can envision themselves attending college and furthering their education beyond high school.

“We are extremely excited about this event,” said Kofi Myler, 20 Books founder. “Our efforts here are really two-fold: first we want to completely cover the cost of the trip and second we want to continue to engage with the community with the fair. I was amazed by how much the students got out of the trip last fall. Without exception, each one told me personally how inspired they were. We want to take that effort to the next level with the Harvard trip."
