What is "just be."?
“just be.” is an interactive performance that explores the nature of being: being present, being open, being vulnerable, being engaged, being yourself. This is Shannon Watters' culminating project as she completes her Master of Fine Arts in Choreography from Jacksonville University. The cast includes four local dance talents: Chad Geiger, Kendra Hibbs, Grace Ludwinski, and Audrey Mitts. Additionally, there will be guest performances by many of Shannon’s students from Academy of Dance Arts.
When are you able to honestly be yourself? How does it feel? What does it look like? Can you be that vulnerable and open in front of others… fully revealing your true self? How? When?
For us, dance provides the means for being. Through movement, we uncover how the mind, body, and spirit connect as we delve into who we are as people and artists and determine what is necessary in order for us to be.
We hope as an audience you are able to be open, be present, be engaged, and be inspired by our performance. We invite you to let go of your to-do lists, your worries, and anything else on your mind; we invite you to “just be.”
About the performance
The dancers will interact with the audience initially in the lobby of the theater, inviting them to participate if they so choose. They will then move into the theater where the performance will take the audience down the path to “be” in the present moment.
The performance integrates collaborative, somatic-based, improvisational, modern, and contemporary techniques with experiments in staging and technology. We will have "dancer free" areas set up for those who wish to watch and not interact with the dancers.
“just be.” will be held on Saturday, March 8 at the Plano Courtyard Theater, 1509 H Avenue. There are two performances, at 6:00pm and 8:00pm, and doors open 30 minutes prior to the performance.
