Details
Granite City Grass is a traditional bluegrass band founded by two best friends Elijah Smith and Levi Head who are both 16 Years old. Elijah and Levi met when they were around 12 years old competing and jamming at local fiddlers conventions in the area. They are both from the same town Mount Airy North Carolina. When they were 15 years old they decided to start their own group named “Granite City Grass”. When creating a band name, they wanted to always remember their roots, and where they were raised. Mount airy NC is famously known for having the worlds largest open faced granite quarry, and the town has the nickname “The Granite City”, which is where the band name came from, Grass meaning Bluegrass music. Levi and Elijah both are avid fans of traditional bluegrass music and both started out playing at a young age. They both find it important to preserve the sound that the pioneers of bluegrass music created, but to bring a youthful energy to the music, and to get fans both old and young, exited for when they hit the stage.
