Event Details

The GNFAC, Friends of GNFAC, PMEF, UM Western School of Outreach and the Dillon Public Library are sponsoring this course.

New this year, snowmobile specific field session off the Pioneer Scenic Byway.

Open to the public.
Pre-registration is REQUIRED.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm, with a Ski and Snowboard Field Session on Saturday, February 1st at Maverick Mountain 9 am-3 pm and a Snowmobile Field Session on Sunday, February 2nd on the Pioneer Scenic Byway 9 am-3 pm. Topics include: avalanche terrain recognition, the effect weather has on avalanche hazard, the development of the mountain snowpack, decision making skills, and basic search and rescue procedures. Participants in the field course should have basic skiing and snowboarding skills with the appropriate equipment to negotiate “groomed” intermediate ski runs. Please bring skins or snowshoes for uphill travel. Although not required, an avalanche rescue beacon, shovel, and probe will be very helpful for the field session.

You MUST attend the classroom session to go in the field on the weekend.
