West Yellowstone, Snowmobile/Ski Intro to Avalanches w/ Field
The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center and Friends of GNFAC are sponsoring this course.
Location: Holiday Inn, 315 Yellowstone Ave
MONDAY, December 9, 2019, 1pm until 5pm (classroom)
TUESDAY, December 10, 2019 (all day field session)
Cost: a $50.00 donation to The Friends of the Avalanche Center.
The lectures will be conducted during an afternoon (1-5 p.m.) followed by a full day field course. Topics covered include: avalanche terrain recognition, the affect weather has on avalanche hazard, the development of the mountain snowpack, decision making skills, and basic search and rescue procedures. Participants in the field session will each need a reliable snowmobile and basic mountain riding skills. An avalanche rescue beacon and shovel are required.
THIS COURSE MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS FOR CUSTER GALLATIN NF SNOWMOBILE GUIDES CERTIFICATION.
THERE WILL BE A SKI FIELD DAY OPTION.
